Wildlife Tracking - 5 day Intensive

  • Marcassie Farm Rafford Moray IV36 2RH Scotland (map)

This 5 day intensive wildlife tracking course in Scotland is ideal for those who already have some tracking experience and would like to take it further (although you are still welcome and will gain a lot if you are new to tracking). Tracking develops our ability to observe subtle clues and understand wildlife behaviour and ecology. We will look in detail at more advanced tracks and signs left by a range of birds, mammals, amphibians and invertebrates in variety of fantastic habitats, from the wild River Findhorn, estuary and coast, to woodland, farmland and more! This course will also be ideal preparation for the CyberTracker Track & Sign evaluation taking place later in the year!

You will build confidence in recognising and interpreting more difficult to identify and obscure tracks and signs in a range of substrates. We will explore how tracking can enhance our understanding of the wider ecosystem by drawing upon many different aspects of natural history.

During the course we will cover:

  • Advanced track identification

  • Sign recognition – (including feeding sign, droppings etc)

  • Gait interpretation and reading animal behaviour

  • Ecology through the lens of tracking

  • Observation, deduction and sensory awareness exercises

  • Track traps

  • Wildlife observation

  • Identifying and analysing skulls, bones and feathers
